Privacy Policy
- We collect what you give us (your account, your cars and homes, their service history, bills and quotes you upload) and basic technical data.
- We use it to run your records, timelines, reminders, quote checks and price comparisons, and to bill your membership.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for third-party advertising.
- Prices from your records may help improve our fair-price ranges, but only after they are de-identified and combined with others’.
- You can download your records anytime and ask us to delete your account.
1. Who we are

3. How we use it
We use your information to provide and improve the service: keeping your records, building maintenance timelines, sending reminders and renewal notices, checking quotes and bills against fair ranges, processing payments, responding to you, preventing fraud and abuse, and meeting legal obligations. Automated systems, including AI models run by our service providers, read the documents you upload (such as quotes, bills and receipts) to do this work. They process your information only to provide the service to you.
4. Fair-price data
Our public price ranges get better with real prices. We may use amounts from service records, quotes and bills to improve them, but only after removing names, contact details, VINs, street addresses and anything else that identifies you, and combining them with data from many households. We publish ranges, never an individual household’s records.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run parts of the service for us under contract, such as hosting (Vercel), our database and sign-in (Supabase), payments (Stripe), email (Resend) and AI processing providers.
- People in your household whom you invite. They can see your household’s records.
- Others you choose, for example when you download a record and give it to a buyer or a shop.
- Legal and safety needs: when required by law or to protect rights, safety and the integrity of the service.
- A business transfer: if Fair Rate Index or Peaking Waters LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
6. Cookies and similar technology
We use your browser’s storage to keep you signed in and remember your settings. We don’t use third-party advertising cookies.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your records while your account is open. If your membership ends, your records stay available for you to view and download for at least 12 months. You can ask us to delete them sooner. We keep billing records as long as tax and accounting law requires, and de-identified, combined price data may be kept indefinitely.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access to it is limited by account and household, and payment card data is handled by Stripe, a PCI-certified processor. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
9. Your choices and rights
- Access and export: view and download your records anytime from your household page.
- Correct: edit your information in your account, or email us.
- Delete: email us to delete your account and records.
- Emails: unsubscribe from marketing emails anytime. Service emails such as renewal notices and payment receipts are part of your membership.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state law, such as the right to know what we collect, to opt out of certain processing, or to appeal a decision about your request. Email hello@fairrateindex.com to make a request; we will verify it’s you and respond within the time the law requires. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
10. Children
Fair Rate Index is for adults. Household accounts must be created by someone 18 or older, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
11. Changes
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and email members before the changes take effect.
