Membership Terms
- Membership is $29 a year per car and $29 a year per home. One home plus one car is $49. Add-ons are priced separately.
- Your membership renews automatically every year until you cancel. We email you before each renewal.
- Add or remove cars, homes and add-ons anytime. Additions are charged for the months left in your year; removals lower your next renewal.
- Cancel online anytime in your dashboard. You keep access until the end of the year you paid for.
- Your records are yours. You can download them anytime, including after you cancel.
- Fair prices and quote checks are estimates to help you decide. They are not a guarantee, a mechanic’s inspection, or professional advice.
1. Who we are
Fair Rate Index (“we,” “us”) is operated by Peaking Waters LLC, a North Carolina company. You can reach us at hello@fairrateindex.com or by mail at Peaking Waters LLC, 9938 Caldwell Depot Road, Cornelius, NC 28031.
2. Your household account
A membership belongs to a household. The person who creates it is the owner and is responsible for payment. The owner can invite family members, who can view the household’s records and add service history. Only the owner can change what the household pays for or cancel. You must be 18 or older to create a household.
3. What membership includes
For each car and home on your membership: a service history record, a maintenance timeline, reminders, fair local price ranges for upcoming work, quote checks, and a yearly summary report. We add and improve features over time; new features for these records are included in your price. Free public tools on our site, such as the price index, knowledge base and instant quotes, remain available without a membership.
4. Prices
Membership costs $29 per year for each car and $29 per year for each home. When your household has at least one home and one car, one home and one car are billed together as the Home & Auto combo at $49 per year. Add-ons, such as Household Bills at $10 per year, are billed per household. Prices are in U.S. dollars and do not include taxes, which we add where required.
5. Automatic renewal
Your membership renews automatically each year on your renewal date, and we charge the payment method on file the then-current price for everything on your membership, until you cancel. We email you at least 7 days before each renewal with the amount and how to cancel. Your renewal date and yearly total are always shown in your dashboard.
6. Adding and removing cars, homes and add-ons
When you add a car, home or add-on during the year, we charge a prorated amount for the time left until your renewal date, and it renews with the rest of your household after that. When you remove one, it stops being billed at your next renewal. We do not refund the remainder of the year for items you remove. A removed car or home keeps its record in your account, read-only, and you can download it or add it back later.
7. Cancelling
You can cancel anytime from your dashboard under Billing and membership, or by emailing hello@fairrateindex.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid year, and you will not be charged again. You keep full access until then. If you cancel within 14 days of your first membership charge, email us and we’ll refund it in full. After your membership ends, your records remain available for you to view and download for at least 12 months.
8. Promotions
Promo codes apply as described when you use them, usually to your first year only. Unless a promotion says otherwise, renewals are charged at the regular price. Promo codes have no cash value, cannot be combined unless stated, and may expire or be limited in number.
9. Price changes
If we change membership prices, we will email you at least 30 days before the change affects your renewal. You can cancel before the new price applies.
10. Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, we will retry it and email you to update your card. If payment isn’t completed within 21 days, paid features may pause until it is. Your records are not deleted.
11. Estimates, not professional advice
Fair price ranges, maintenance timelines and quote checks are estimates based on our data and the information you provide. They are meant to help you make informed decisions. They are not a guarantee of any price, a diagnosis or inspection of your car or home, or legal, financial, insurance or safety advice. Always follow your vehicle’s owner’s manual, your equipment manufacturer’s guidance, and qualified professionals.
12. Your records and data
You own the records you add. You give us permission to store and process them to provide the service, and to use information that has been de-identified and combined with others’ to improve our price ranges. We do not sell your personal information. You can download your records anytime and ask us to delete your account. See our Privacy Policy for details.
13. Acceptable use
Use your account for your own household. Don’t upload content you don’t have the right to share, try to access other households’ data, or interfere with the service.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including the cost of repairs or services you choose to buy.
15. Changes to these Terms
If we make material changes, we will email you and ask you to review and accept the new version in your dashboard. Changes do not apply retroactively.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
