Data & press

The Fair Rate Index is free to read, cite and build on. Download the numbers, call the API, or ask us for a custom cut for your story, product or research.

Download the index

Current version: v0.1. Files are rebuilt from the same published index that powers the homepage lookup, the API and every PDF report, so the numbers always agree.

Low, typical and high are the 25th, 50th and 75th percentiles of the modeled fair band. Figures are modeled estimates, not quotes or offers. See the methodology, data sources and version history.

Live API

One request, no key: GET /v1/rate?task=hvac.capacitor&state=NC returns the fair band as JSON. Full docs on the API page. Need bulk access or a feed for every county? Email hello@fairrateindex.com.

About the index

The Fair Rate Index publishes free, public fair-price ranges for the eight core home and car trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, general contracting, painting, landscaping and automotive) across all 50 states and DC. It is not a marketplace: no contractor pays for placement or a different number. It is operated by Peaking Waters LLC in Cornelius, North Carolina, and funded by paid home and car records and business tools.
